Iba ang Pinoy Driver: Dealing with Climate Change

Simple things are most of the times amazing... Just like this thing what the jeepney driver installed - fan of an aircon.
I was taking the front seat and when he turned it on, I was a bit surprised. I couldn't help but ask him about it.
It is really so warm in the Philippines at the moment... Like being in a big Microwave Oven. Stading under the shadow does not really help much. The little heat waves will find their way to touch your skin.
It was a comfortable 20 minutes ride with the fan of the airconditioning unit. Maybe this is also one way of recycling them.

Ano ka Striker?

Bacolod City - We now have the new government center and some of the jeepney routes where one time "forced" to pass by there for the benefit of the few... Well, I have nothing against this few but here is one scene I witnessed today:

I was trying to be early to work, and every time I try it is also the time that the jeepney I am taking will take the long way. We are at the crossing of Burgos Road and Circumferential when a "old" lady (who is more likely an old maid) told the driver (with an arrogance and force in her voice), "Government Center 'ko! (I will get off at the Government Center)." The driver replied with a low voice, "Tani naghambal ka kagina pagsakay mo" (You should have told me the moment you got on the jeepney). All the other passengers where a bit pissed, students will be late and other workers because this detour to the government center is at least 2.5 kilometers and take the traffic into account. The lady replied, "Di ba dapat malabay kamo tanan sa Government Center?! Ano ka, Striker?" (Isn't it that all jeepneys MUST pass by the Government Center?! What are you, Striker*?).

The driver just made a left turn towards the Government Center and the rest of us will for sure going to be late.

The thing is, some people will use "force" to get their ways. Some will never say anything and will just murmur. With the submissive Filipino attitude, the bullies win.

*Striker can somehow mean illegal, no franchise jeepneys, or those who are just opportunists. In general, it is negative.

Jeepney

Jeepney is the most used and popular means of transportation in the Philippines. It comes in different shapes, sizes, and colors - depending on the city or region you are at... Being the most used transport, you will experience and witness different scenes while you are on it...

So the reason for this blog...
